Darius Dinn And The Temporal Engine James Kruse Books
I waiting until our book group had finished reading this novel before doing a review. There are 6 of us, and I do not think if you were to add up all of the ratings you would even get 1 star total. No one liked it. Our group is a pretty good cross section of people, some professional, some trade, so academia' and some entertainment. No one liked this book and were quite surprised that it had almost a 5 star rating. We knew it was a juvenile book and as a rule we have enjoyed such books. But this book could have been much better with a better editing and some beta readers. Usage of words were poor and often incorrect. Was not a whole lot to like in any of the characters and definitely not enough back story (even if this is a multi-volume series) to hold your interest.I wanted to like this book, interesting title and I generally enjoyed Steampunk. Unfortunately, is was all down hill from the title. The characters were two dimensional and not very likable or interesting. It did get a little bit better from the middle to the end, but not enough to move it off of one star. Seigfried was probably the most consistent character, but he was in a narrow role, not much can go wrong. And if that girl was going to faint one more time, GRRRR!
I can't recommend this book to anyone of any age.

Darius Dinn And The Temporal Engine James Kruse Books Reviews
Darius Dinn is the Harry Potter of the Steampunk world!!! I bought this book early this morning and read it in one sitting , you just can't bring yourself to put it down, the characters just leap off the page and pull you in. One can only hope that this is the first of many of Darius Dunn adventures
I have never read steampunk fiction before. I was pleasantly surprised just how much I loved this book!! The manner in which is was written made you feel like you were actually there. I could picture myself in Haden watching from the sidelines as I was reading. It was hard for me to put down once I started reading. I would probably read anything this author writes from now on!
Darius Dinn and the Temporal Engine is an exhilarating romp across time and space. Written for a young adult audience, it is a captivating read with a sci-fi/fantasy story line, steam punk slant and snappy dialogue that moves the story along quickly. Young readers will identify with the main characters in the story, while enjoying the wit and wisdom of the eccentric inventor, Durban Wells. As a retired educator, I highly recommend Darrius Dinn and the Temporal Engine. It will make a perfect summertime reading assignment for the 10-15 year old in your home. However, take this as a warning; it is hard to put down once started! Your youngling may find himself staying up quite late to finish it.
There are only three locations in this book, the Town, the flats and the mountain. The story hops between these so often that it starts to hurt your head. There are rumours of a deeper story beneath but this isn't fully explained. The book starts OK, but the middle is torture and the end wholly unsatisfactory. I'm sorry I made the mistake of buying this.
There were more holes in this story than in Swiss cheese. It was apparently published without the benefit of an editor. Nearly every page had grammar errors worthy of a junior-high student, inconsistencies, and so on. I heard it billed as steampunk, but that requires a certain amount of consistency, both internally and with the known world.
Refreshing plot, well-rounded characters, and electric dialogue. This story pushes the boundaries of young adult fiction and gives us something we haven't quite experienced before. Move over vampires and werewolves, Darius Dinn is where it's at.
Darius Dinn & the Temporal Engine is a story that kept my interest about a little boy with a big mission. This is the type of story that you start reading one evening and look up to realize it’s 2 in the morning. I liked the descriptive imagery of the west with steampunk inventions. Each character lends their own individuality to the story. Darius is a great character, but I found myself really liking Margaret. The dynamic between Darius, Peter, Margaret, Sadie and Miss Hepplewhite is probably why when I looked up it was 2 in the morning.
All in all great book!
